The American Psychiatric Association Foundation encourages those in the media to cover suicides responsibly. Research has shown that graphic, sensationalized or romanticized descriptions of suicide deaths in the news media can contribute to suicide contagion, popularly referred to as “copycat” suicides. More information can be found on the Association for Suicide Prevention website, here.
